This checks whether you can subordinate personal preference or credit to a better team outcome — a meaningful signal for how you'll behave once your individual contribution and the team's success occasionally pull in different directions.

What a strong answer covers

• What you actually gave up — a preferred technical approach, credit for an idea, a preferred task assignment, visibility on a high-profile project
• Why it mattered to you, stated honestly — pretending you didn't care at all makes the "sacrifice" sound hollow
• The reasoning that led you to prioritize the team outcome anyway
• Whether it turned out to be the right call in hindsight — both answers ("yes, and here's why" or "honestly, still not sure, but here's why I'd do it again") can work if reasoned well

Common pitfalls

• A sacrifice so trivial it doesn't actually demonstrate anything ("I let someone else present")
• Framing that makes it sound like a martyrdom story rather than a reasoned tradeoff
