Software Engineer, Applied AI

About CircuitHub CircuitHub is reshaping electronics manufacturing with The Grid, a factory-scale robotics platform that makes small-batch, high-mix electronics assembly radically more efficient. Think semiconductor-fab precision applied to the chaotic world of prototyping and low-volume production: a 10x throughput improvement in one of the world's most foundational industries. We've raised $45M from top-tier investors including Plural, Y Combinator and Google Ventures, and we're already profitable. Our customers include a major EV maker, a top AI lab and many of the worlds largest companies. The Grid isn't a prototype. It's live, scaling fast and delivering real revenue, and we're building the team that will scale it further. Overview CircuitHub is primarily built using a combination of Haskell, Nix, and PostgreSQL, deployed to both AWS and bare metal machines. We use a significant amount of open-source technology, and also try and give back where possible (for example, both Rel8 and Fast Downward Haskell bindings ). CircuitHub spans a vast problem space. Challenges include computer vision (OpenCV), machine learning (PyTorch), hard optimization problems (Z3/MiniZinc/OR-Tools), and all the normal engineering challenges of building both web-based customer-facing and internal tooling. We work on manufacturing execution systems, enterprise resource planning, and robotics. An old video from Haskell Exchange 2019 hints at what we are up to on the robotics side. We have progressed significantly since then! These roles are remote (any location), in-person, or hybrid, depending on preference. We have offices in South Deerfield - USA, Cambridge, and London, UK. Salary depends on the candidate and location, but as guidance in the UK, a likely range is £80k to £125k and in the US $125k to $250k, with additional equity. CircuitHub has raised $45M from top-tier VCs and has been going for about ten years. CircuitHub is profitable, with tens of millions in revenue. Small team (C…

It's live, scaling fast and delivering real revenue, and we're building the team that will scale it further. What you'll do Architect the robot operating system. Design the core abstractions: how robots, cameras, tools and jobs are modelled, how work is planned and dispatched, how state is shared and how failures are handled. Decide what belongs in Python and what needs Rust. Bring in new vision. Integrate novel computer vision algorithms into the control loop, from finding and centring parts to checking every pick and placement, and make them fast and reliable enough for production. Build agentic robotics. Put large models to work in the robots themselves: programming a new part from its datasheet, judging a pick from a camera image, diagnosing a fault and recovering from it, with evals that prove it works before it runs alone. Move a fleet. Route dozens of movers at once without collisions or deadlocks, and coordinate gantries, printers and ovens around them. Bridge to real time. Design clean interfaces between high-level planning and the real-time controllers driving the motors. Make it observable. Simulation, tracing and replay, so every change is proven before it reaches the factory and every failure can be explained. What we look for You've worked on, and ideally architected, a large-scale robot code base that ran on real hardware in producti…

About CircuitHub CircuitHub is reshaping electronics manufacturing with The Grid, a factory-scale robotics platform that makes small-batch, high-mix electronics assembly radically more efficient. What you'll do Inspect boards. Improve automated optical inspection that finds missing, rotated and wrongly placed parts and bad solder, working alongside our AI agents. Pick reliably. Train and deploy the models that find parts in bins and trays, centre them on the nozzle and catch a clumped or dropped pick. Align precisely. Fiducial detection, calibration and image alignment for placements measured in fractions of a millimetre. Build the data loop. Decide what to capture, build labelling tools, and turn operator verdicts into training data. Go fast. Work with our high-speed cameras and GPU capture pipeline to move vision closer to real time. Measure it. Track accuracy in production, find where errors come from, and prove every change against past results. What we look for You've shipped computer vision into production, beyond a notebook. Strong software engineering in Python, C++ or a comparable language. A mix of classical vision (geometry, calibration, template matching) and deep learning; you know when each is the right tool. Experience with industrial or machine-vision cameras is a bonus. You use coding agents to move faster and take full ownership of what they produce. You like the physical world: lighting, lenses and parts rotated by…
