Working Student — AI Engineering & Document Intelligence

About Tracium Tracium builds AI-assisted technical documentation software that turns complex manuals and engineering documents into structured, traceable information. Our initial focus is maritime, with applications across manufacturing, aerospace, and defence. We combine document intelligence with S1000D authoring to help technical teams extract maintenance information, create documentation, and verify AI-generated suggestions against their sources. Your role You will own the AI capabilities behind our document intelligence platform—from understanding complex PDFs to extracting information that engineers can review and use. What you’ll do Build pipelines for document parsing, OCR, layout understanding, and extraction from text, tables, and diagrams. Develop retrieval and AI workflows for technical question answering and maintenance information extraction. Design structured outputs with validation and references to source documents. Build evaluation datasets and measure extraction accuracy, retrieval quality, and unsupported outputs. Improve model performance, processing speed, and cost across cloud and private deployments. Work with product and engineering colleagues to bring prototypes into production. What you bring Experience delivering AI or machine learning systems into production. Strong Python and software engineering skills. Practical experience with LLMs, structured extraction, retrieval, and evaluation. An understanding of document processing challenges, including imperfect scans and complex layouts. The ability to investigate failures systematically and make clear technical trade-offs. Clear communication in English. Useful additional experience Technical manuals, industrial documentation Multimodal models, open-source model deployment, or GPU inference. Private, on-premises, or restricted-network environments. Why join Tracium? Help shape the core AI architecture of an early-stage product, work directly with the founders, and solve document problems wi…

About Tracium Tracium builds AI-assisted technical documentation software for teams working with complex manuals and engineering information. Our platform combines document intelligence with S1000D authoring, initially serving maritime use cases. We want technical authors to spend less time managing document complexity and more time producing accurate, useful information. Your role You will turn our AI and document processing capabilities into a product that technical authors and engineers can use confidently. You will work across the authoring interface, backend services, and integrations. What you’ll do Build an intuitive editor that lets users create structured technical documentation without working directly with XML tags. Develop interfaces for reviewing extracted information and AI suggestions alongside their sources. Create workflows for editing, validation, version comparison, and document export. Build backend APIs and integrate document processing and AI services. Implement access controls, audit history, and reliable handling of long-running tasks. Improve responsiveness and performance when working with large documents. Work closely with the founders and domain experts to translate feedback into product improvements. What you bring Experience shipping and maintaining production web applications. Strong TypeScript and React skills, or experience with a comparable modern frontend framework. Backend development experience with Python or Node.js. Experience designing APIs and working with relational databases. A practical approach to testing, security, accessibility, and maintainable code. An interest in making complex workflows straightforward for users. Clear communication in English. Useful additional experience Rich-text editors, structured content, or collaborative editing. XML, document standards. AI interfaces, document viewers, or enterprise software. Why join Tracium? Take ownership of meaningful product features, work directly with the founders, a…
