About Tracium Tracium builds AI-assisted technical documentation software that turns complex manuals and engineering documents into structured, traceable information. Our initial focus is maritime, with applications across manufacturing, aerospace, and defence. We combine document intelligence with S1000D authoring to help technical teams extract maintenance information, create documentation, and verify AI-generated suggestions against their sources. Your role You will own the AI capabilities behind our document intelligence platform—from understanding complex PDFs to extracting information that engineers can review and use. What you’ll do Build pipelines for document parsing, OCR, layout understanding, and extraction from text, tables, and diagrams. Develop retrieval and AI workflows for technical question answering and maintenance information extraction. Design structured outputs with validation and references to source documents. Build evaluation datasets and measure extraction accuracy, retrieval quality, and unsupported outputs. Improve model performance, processing speed, and cost across cloud and private deployments. Work with product and engineering colleagues to bring prototypes into production. What you bring Experience delivering AI or machine learning systems into production. Strong Python and software engineering skills. Practical experience with LLMs, structured extraction, retrieval, and evaluation. An understanding of document processing challenges, including imperfect scans and complex layouts. The ability to investigate failures systematically and make clear technical trade-offs. Clear communication in English. Useful additional experience Technical manuals, industrial documentation Multimodal models, open-source model deployment, or GPU inference. Your role You will build the data foundation connecting source documents, AI processing, human review, and downstream systems. Your focus will be reliable processing, clear data models, and traceability throughout the document lifecycle. What you’ll do Design document ingestion and processing pipelines for PDFs, XML, and related technical data. Build workflows for parsing, enrichment, validation, indexing, and export. Define data models for document structure, extracted entities, maintenance tasks, and source references. Implement document versioning, processing history, and reproducible reprocessing. Make pipelines resilient through retries, monitoring, automated checks, and clear failure handling. Work with AI engineers to productionise extraction and retrieval workflows. Support integrations with authoring tools, customer APIs, and ERP systems. What you bring Experience designing and operating production data pipelines. Strong Python, SQL, and data modelling skills. Experience with workflow orchestration, asynchronous processing, and object storage. A practical approach to testing, observability, and data quality. Experience with cloud infrastructure, containers, and infrastructure as code. The ability to take ownership from initial design through production support. Clear communication in English. We combine document intelligence with S1000D authoring, starting with maritime applications. Your role Work alongside experienced engineers on practical AI problems involving real technical documents. You will contribute to experiments, evaluation, and product improvements while developing your engineering skills with guidance from the team. What you’ll do Explore document parsing, OCR, and structured information extraction. Build Python scripts and small prototypes using AI models. Prepare and maintain datasets for testing extraction and retrieval quality. Compare model outputs with source documents and investigate errors. Help automate evaluation and regression checks. Contribute to document processing workflows and internal tools. Document your findings and share what works, what fails, and why. What you bring Current enrolment in computer science, data science, mathematics, engineering, or a related degree. Hands-on Python development skills. Hands-on with Git, APIs, and data handling. Good understanding about LLMs, machine learning, document intelligence. Attention to detail and a willingness to test assumptions. Clear communication in English.
